BAUHAUS: Bigger and More Modern than Before

BAUHAUS, the specialist for workshops, house and garden, is expanding its network in Westphalia: In a few weeks, a specialist centre will open at the old location in the Dortmund district of Aplerbeck, which will offer significantly more selection and services than ever before on more than three times the area.

The new BAUHAUS, bigger, more modern, more beautiful than before, impresses with over 16,000 square meters of retail space as well as a city garden and the first DRIVE-IN ARENA in Dortmund. A range of services complements the extensive range. 83 specialist advisors are available to answer all of the customer's questions in a competent and friendly manner. The hot set-up phase is currently underway in the new specialist centre.

Whether it's components, building materials, hardware, electronics, tools/machines or lights, parquet, laminate, panels and sanitary ware: on around 16,000 square meters, private customers as well as craftsmen and tradespeople will find everything they need for their projects.

Sustainable Concept

For BAUHAUS, a sustainable design of the specialist centers is high on the agenda. That is why the specialist for workshops, houses and gardens also wants to be a pioneer in environmental protection with this construction project. Energy-efficient plant and building technology plays an important role in the concept for the new specialist centre. Among other things, energy-saving LED lights are used across the board. Special facade and glass technology also helps to operate the building as resource-efficiently as possible. There are also efforts to collect rainwater, for example to use it for watering plants.

A photovoltaic system mounted on the roof supplies the specialist center in Aplerbeck with electricity and delivers a maximum output of 135 kWp. The system is integrated into the extensive green roof, which offers native insects and birds a newly developed habitat, contributes to improving the microclimate and promotes local biodiversity. In addition to a sustainable façade greening, a state-of-the-art heat pump is used, which makes it possible to supply the specialist center with heating energy that is almost self-sufficient.

20 e-charging spaces offer customers the opportunity to charge their e-vehicles, but also e-bikes, around the clock. Dortmunder Stadtwerke AG (DSW21) provide eight of them. The Baden-Württemberg energy supplier EnBW will in future have another twelve charging stations, all of which have a capacity of up to 300 kilowatts.
